The most difficult thing I've had to animate

When The Vulture reached out to me to do an interview about the hardest thing I've ever had to animate I knew right away it was going to be the suicide scene from Rick and Morty season 2 episode 3. Technically the scene came back to me from Bardel (the partner studio) already animated but it needed work to hit the big emotional note we were going for (a lot of work)... and not to toot my own horn but I fucking delivered. I absolutely took pride in the fact that my animated performance made the entire nation shed a tear. Animation is acting for shy people. I don't animate much anymore but when I did I really got into character. When animating something happy I feel a boost, but animating a suicide attempt... that took me to a dark place. For two weeks I lived in the performance of that depressing one minute long continuous shot and to say it was hard is an understatement. But it turned out fucking great and I think it connected with a lot of people and brought a lot of important discussions to the surface. Anyway, check out the scene and the link to the interview which also features some friends of mine on other fantastic productions! https://www.vulture.com/article/the-hardest-thing-i-ever-animated.html
